He receeded from the political spotlight till later in the 1960s when he again sought the Presidency. Amid the protest over over the Vietnam War Nixon finally won the Presidency in 1968, becoming the 37th president of the U.S.

Nixon slowly withdrew American tropps from Vietnam in an effort to Vietnamize the war, by handing over the reponsibility to the South Vietnamese. His other accomplishments include signing the first strategic arms limitation treaty with the Soviet Union, creating a detente with the Soviets. In 1972 Nixon became the first president to visit communist China this was part of Nixon's move towards detente. However, his downfall was the Watergate burglary and subsequent cover-up, which forced him to become the first president to resign from office. Which he did on August 9, 1974.

The books included in this list are general overviews of Richard M. Nixon and his Presidency, as well as biographies and Nixon and Kissingers memoirs on their White House years. The books cover Nixon's domestic and foreign policies. Particularly good overviews include Stephen Ambrose's three volume set biography.
